If the applicant or employee will be operating a company vehicle, or uses a personal vehicle for work-related purposes, checking driving records is critical. If the person has been convicted of a traffic-related felony, such as driving under the influence, you need to know, because you could be held responsible if the employee has an accident while driving a vehicle on company business and injuries result.
 

It can also be worthwhile checking a driving record even if the person will not be using a vehicle for business. Some irresponsible drivers have records that are several pages long.
