Drug Screening
Why do drug screening?
Because drug abuse is a significant problem for
employers. Here are the numbers:
 |
Drug use in the workplace costs employers
approximately $81 billion each year in lost productivity.
|
 |
Of the 12.3 million adults who use illegal drugs, 77%
are full-time or part-time employees.
|
 |
More than 70% of substance abusers hold some kind of
job.
|
 |
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, over 60%
of adults know someone who has come to work under the influence of
alcohol or other drugs.
|
A drug test should considered if the job involves
operating machinery or vehicles, if it makes sense considering the
nature of the work, or if the company is required to meet Federal
DOT or Florida Drug Free Workplace guidelines.
The fact is, employers are at risk, from accidents
and absences to lower productivity and a rise in the frequency of
workers' compensation claims caused by employee substance abuse.
