Social Security Number Verification
(National Availability)
Why do this search?
There are six (6) good reasons why this search
should be done in
every case.
First, it is critically important to verify the
subjects’ identity before conducting other checks. If you expect a
background check to return accurate information, you need to be sure
that the name, address and social security number provided by the
applicant or employee are correct.
For example, if the correct name, date of birth
and/or social security number are not used to access criminal record
databases, you can be fairly sure that no record will be found, even
if records exist.
Second, Of the three (3) primary personal
identifiers, (the other two being name and date of birth), correct
social security numbers provide the most accurate method of
identifying individuals.
Third, people with something to hide can be expected
to provide phony personal information in order to get the job. It
might be to prevent discovery of a criminal record, evade collection
on a debt or judgment, conceal illegal alien status, or to avoid
having to explain suspicious gaps in employment.
Fourth, the concept of due diligence requires
employers to verify an applicants identity.
Fifth, if care is not taken to verify a social
security number, an employees benefits can be assigned to another
person.
Sixth, and this is especially true in transient
states like Florida, it is important to verify where the subject has
been so you know where to conduct record searches.
This service helps to verify the subjects name, address and the
social security number provided. It also shows names and addresses
on record dating back 10 years or more. If you find addresses the
applicant did not list, you might want to find out why, or consider
conducting record searches in those areas.
